If you’ve ever worked in the kitchen with me, you’ve likely been coerced into drinking some version of this tea. Be it a head cold or borderline bronchitis, we were expected tried to preform at 100% and take no days off. However, we would show up with our cough drops, Dayquil, Sudafed and the occasional Elderberry syrup in a ziplock bag. We wore our sickness like a badge of honor and show of tenacity. The show had to go on. Thankfully, this simple solution came in handy whenever my immune system needs a boost!
What’s great about this recipe is that we were able to source most of these powerhouse ingredients in professional kitchens at any given time. Now I can pick everything up at my local grocery store. This immune boosting, warming tea was a ten minute addition to the prep list and a life saver before service. Now I can make this at home with a French press with no fuss!
The health benefits of these ingredients are amazing! Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and immune system boosting properties. Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties, helps fight against infection and clear throat and respiratory issues. Garlic is also great for aiding in cold recovery and prevention. Basil, Mint, Cilantro, and Cayenne Pepper are great in relieving and fighting off colds and cold symptoms as well. In addition, Honey can soothe the throat and is a cough suppressant. Don’t be afraid to change the recipe a little to meet your needs! If you want a sweet tea, more honey is the way to go. If you are have sinus pressure and are feeling like a spicy tea more chili can help!
